I'll Always be Younger Than My Friends & Sisters

Of all the intelligent and thought provoking things I've written on this humble blog of mine, I am surprised at the reaction to my "Birthday" post. Delighted and surprised. Always I want to be that thing that irritates you enough to stop and try to figure out what the hell it is that is making you so uncomfortable. If that thing is me, well then, I have done my job.

Like the tag that scratches your neck all day long, the sock that slips off your heel and into your shoe, the tiny fleck of popcorn stuck in your left molar. That is me. I am more than delighted. I am ecstatic. If I knew that it would be this easy, I would have quit dying my hair long ago. Or never have started.

To clarify a few fine points. We are born. We live one year and than we say we are one. But we are starting our second year. So, I am 48 this month, but really I am starting my 49th year. Math always fails me, but the truth never does. That, my dear friends is the truth. We are in our 49th year. Well, you are anyway. I have a few days to go.

Sister,
Why don't you tell us how you Really feel? All kidding aside,I guess that is why we as women come in all different shapes and sizes and opinions, but alas I cannot share yours on this graying hair stuff. If I go by your calculations I have turned 59 but began my 60th year this October,I if you don' mind would like to enjoy the fact that I have some time to prepare myself to leave the 50's behind to enter into the 60's. I like to say,"I am in my 50's. Or to hear those who describe me say,"She is in her 50's, or she is 50 something...Even though it may somewhat delusional I need it. Sometimes I even feel like the young girl I was in my 20's but that is rare I will admit. Aging has some disapointing drawbacks but it also has lots of wisdom and gratitude along with lots of humility. Yes, I am still dying my hair while I am in my 50's and I will evaluate the situation Next year when I actually turn 60!!!!!Through it all I may be getting old but "I am still here"!

Oh my God! Dye your hair! That is the only truth you need to worry about. I don't want you looking at pictures a few years from now and ask me why I ever let you walk around looking like that!! LOL...I love you!
